February marks bumper month for accessible talks

In February, STAGETEXT will be providing access to 13 events in London through live speech-to-text transcription. These include 12 talks in museums and galleries, with 4 during Jewish Book Week, and one following the captioned performance of The Trial of Ubu at Hampstead Theatre. STAGETEXT has produced two short films to demonstrate its work in theatres, museums and galleries. Captioning in Theatre explains how captioning can make a real difference to the 1 in 6 people in the population who are deaf, deafened or hard of hearing and includes an excerpt from a well-known novel with the high frequencies removed. New Social Group for captioned theatre in North West London

STAGETEXT has set up a Social Group for deaf, deafened and hard of hearing theatregoers who live in North/North West London to encourage them to attend captioned performances together, socialise and meet new friends. Friday 18th November 2011 marked a double celebration for STAGETEXT when Peter Pullan, our co-founder and former Chair, received his MBE from HRH The Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace for services to deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people.
